Pensacola Airshow 2010
By: Tom Johnson - 11/15/10

We had a great showing off of the 103 at the Blue Angel Airshow at NAS Pensacola.  Literally 500+ people took turns sitting in the glider and getting their pictures taken.  Lots of questions and lots of answers from the folks who came out to help.

Many thanks to Rus and Pete for flying the 103 over to NAS.  To Joe for taking care of the logistics on the base end.  To Emmett, Pete, Ken, Roger, Gene, Art, James, John, and Matt for doing the duty of answering the questions and handing out the fliers.  To Chris, Nat, and Art for doing the fly-off.

We filled up the schedule for Sunday with Introductory Rides generated by the airshow.  Alex and Chris, and Art made it happen at the field.  I suspect that we will have many rideas to give and a number of new members because of the show.

The 2-33

We are in the process of getting the parts and manuals we need for the rehab of the 2-33.  I would like us to have a weekly work party at the hanagr at 0900 every Saturday for a couple of hours to work on the various items that must be done.  The biggest work will be smoothing out the wings and replacing a couple of fitiings on the wings.  We also need to design and install electrical components (battery, transponder, radio fitting, push to talk, and variometer)

The decision of what color to paint the glider seems to be coming down to the traditional orange/tan or the “yellow peril” Navy livery with the roundels.

Quarterly Board Meeting

The Quarterly Board Meeting will be held on Saturday at the hangar at 4PM in conjunction with the movie and cook-out.  Please plan to attend.  There is a lot of stuff going on and the board always welcomes your input.  And the movie, “The Sunship Game” is a neat flick.  Lots of big soaring and big personalities.

Flying

The Blanik A.D. gave us a bad punch.  But now we have the 103 up and running, and we are working on the 2-33.  Come out and fly.  The 102 is lonely and needs people to caress it in the air.  If you have a rating to complete, now is the time to do it.  Nat had a good flight up to Atmore and back in the 102.  Just because it is winter doesn’t mean there is not lift.  Donna and Dewitt each soloed recently.  Rus had a piece in the soaring magazine about the trip to Minden with a nice picture of Brad in the LS-4.

2010 has been a tumultuous year for the club, but I trult believe we are coming out of it.

Hope to see all of you Saturday.
Tom
