Hello to all:
I hope you had a chance to read Rus’s description of our trip to the SSA Convention. I was a very nice time. In two years, we will have to get more of us going. I learned alot of information about insurance, etc.
1. Transponders: 90867 now has the transponder installed and working. Many thanks to Ray, Rus, and Brad for doing the lion’s share of the installation work. As soon as 99946 gets back from the paint shop, we will complete the installation on it. I highly encourage all of you to use the transponder in flight. It will greatly increase our visibility to ATC and other traffic.
2. Data-logger: We purchased an NW micro-data-logger for the club and SeeYou software to go along with it. This means that the club can now start doing FAI Badge flights. Altitude climbs, cross-country, 5 hour duration. All can be done now with this device. It takes an SD card (or a Micro SD card with an SD card adapter) so you can record your flights for playback. It will be a useful tool for training and it is fun to relive a flight.
3. Altimeter Setting: We need to begin getting in the habit of setting our altimeters to field elevation. Coastal Airport is at 110 ft. Whenever you travel to another airport, the field elevation will be a part of your flight calculations.
4. Fred has the wings for 99946 almost painted and we are getting ready to take the fuselage over this week. Hopefully we will be back in the air come March 1. Says thanks to Fred.
5. The Soaring Safety Foundation can do a weekend safety seminar for the club. Please let me know if we have the interest to do this.
Thanks for all of the help in getting things done at the club. Let’s hope we have a good soaring spring here at CSA. Let’s put the Grob to work and start doing some Badge work.
Tom
