Dear CSA Members:

It has been a couple of months since the last update.  I have been very busy and have had a nosejob, so my motivation and ability to send out an update has been compromised.

Please extend best wishes to Doug Whithouse.  He had a heart attack and will be down for a while.  It came on very suddenly and while he is OK for now, there is much rehab to be done.  Cards and letters and e-mail to him are welcome.

Joe had his hip replaced.  You will see him out at the field doing OSO.  I am very impressed by his determination and love for the club.  Help him out as much as you can at the field.  I hope I have that level of grit when the time comes.

Greg Burris is back flying after his stent.  It is good to see him at the field again.

Congratulation to Brad for getting his CFIG done.

We have had a number of really good soaring flights.  Nat Swanson had a 2+30 flight.  Gene Hilsheimer (who lied to me and said he didn’t know how to soar) had a 1+30 flight.  There are others, but I remember these because I flew to Atmore-Silverhill- and back.  87NM flight.

46 is back from the paint shop and should be up this weekend.  We still have to complete the transponder installation and electrical upgrade.

The Grob is doing well.  We have a transponder for it and Rus needs help getting the cockpit set-up complete.

We now have a data-logger and we can do Badge flights.  1000 meter altitude gain (3281 ft) is very do-able around here.  Silver Distance flights to Atmore is very attainable.  I highly encourage all of you do begin trying to do some of this.  It is a lot of fun to break the strings and get into cross-country flying.

We have a veritable plethora of new members.  Please greet them warmly and welcome them to our club.

A big thanks to the twelve individuals who came out on Friday for the 46 assembly.  Thanks to Ken and Roger for spearheading the effort.  A big thank you to Fred Rettig for doing the painting at cost!!!!

It is time to plan for Minden in the summer.  We have the Duo Discus at Soaring NV reserved for July 12 through 16.  I am going and I have a firm commitment from Justin.  Please come and join us experience some big time thermals and cross country opportunites.  Talk to Justin and get his take on the experience.  Soaring NV will let me instruct in the Duo for cross country work.  I am looking for a way to get my Mini-Nimbus out there.  If we get enough interest, we can take the Grob as well.

Let me know if you are interested and we can make the required arrangements.

Come on out this Saturday for pancakes and hopefully some good soaring after the monthly glider maintenance.  Hope to see you all there.

Happy Soaring
Tom Johnson
