Hello everyone.
I hope you all are enjoying the wonderful fall weather.
1. I hope you have had the chance to come out and see the new sailplane we have purchased. I had the opportunity to fly it a few days ago and it flys very nicely, just like a Grob should. It will be an excellent cross-country ship once we get used to it. We still about $1500 to get the equipment to purchase the GPS data-logger to start doing SSA Badge work in the Grob. I welcome any and all checks. (BSEG) I encourage all of you to come out and get acquainted with 5A and enjoy flying her.
2. Minden July 2010: Justin and I had a wonderful experience last July. Justin gained tremendous experience and confidence and is ready to assault the Pine Nut Mountains. I completed my Diamond Badge with a very fun 508km flight and am ready to help anyone else do the same. It is time to start planning for 2010. I suggest July 12 through 17. This is a Monday to Saturday stint. Please let me know who is interested. Talk to Justin to find out his thoughts on the experience. I had a great time with him and hope more will come this summer.
3. We need to fabricate a cradle for the Grob trailer to facilitate getting the fuselage on and off more easily. Any volunteers would be appreciated.
4. Rus Howard did a tremendous job reworking the electrical system on 67. Now it is time to do the same to 46. Rus needs help with the work. Rus, can you set a date for the work and we will get a working party together.
5. Many thanks to Joe and Ken for getting the pneumatic strut on 46 sealed. It became quite a challenge for them and they overcame it nicely.
6. The Blue Angel Homecoming Airshow is November 12, 13, and 14. We will fly the Grob over to NAS on the 11th and fly it back on Monday the 16th. We need people to man the recovery on Wednesday and the launch on Monday. We need people to man the airshow booth on the airshow days. It has been a good exposure for us in the past and a lot of fun. Please let us know if you can help.
7. I ordered the first transponder for our gliders. Once it arrives, we can get a working party together to install it. The price tag for all of the equipment and harness’s is $2400. Anything we can do to cut down on installation costs will help us tremendously.
8. Jody had a great experience at Chilhowee in Benton, TN. It is time to get a club detachment together and go up for a couple of days. November turns out to be a bad month for me. I would suggest mid- January as a target. Any thoughts and does anyone want to organize the event? We can trailer the Grob up there and Sarah has three two place gliders available for check-out and operations.
Lots going on. We are flying Wednesday and it should be a good soaring day.
Tom
