Altitudes - General Info

Nine Mile Road:

Tony requests that our gliders keep maintaining a safe altitude over Nine Mile Road on approaches to Runway 18.  If you have any questions, speak with your friendly CFIG for details.

Maximum Altitude Notification:

The tow pilot notifies Approach Control of the maximum altitude we expect to fly prior to operations every day.

The Ops/Safety should be informed of that altitude.

After that, it is often after a glider has reached a much-higher altitude that anyone on the ground is aware of altitudes reached by our sailplanes.

Glider pilots should let the Ops/Safety Officer know when higher altitudes have been reached, so that Approach Control can be notified.

Reason: With Runway 19 ops at NAS or runway 08 ops at Regional, we tend to have a lot of private, commercial, and military traffic overfly Coastal on their approaches.

If we’ve only “reserved” up to 3K ft, yet have sailplanes thousands of feet higher than that, an unsafe situation will have developed.

Keep the Ops/Safety informed of your higher altitudes so that we can let Approach know.
